As a lifelong Seattle resident, it is heartbreaking to witness an iconic and beloved anthem being replaced by a fleeting and unsuitable replacement. The soul of Seattle sporting events was once encapsulated in the beloved tune of "Louie Louie"—a local classic for over half a century that was a rallying cry and a song that united us across generations. Today, however, our cherished games are marred by the blaring repetition of Macklemore's "Can't Hold Us". 

While we respect the initial excitement of having a local musician rise to fame, we cannot overlook the fact that Macklemore's music—and the artist himself—has not withstood the test of time. His public antics and questionable politics are at best cringe-worthy, and at worst, deeply disturbing. The initial popularity of "Can't Hold Us" has long faded, and its presence in our stadiums feels like a forced and outdated homage to a momentary pop culture blip. 

The displacement of "Louie Louie" by this tune exhibits a disregard for our city's rich cultural heritage that we simply cannot tolerate. Our modern-day experience when cheering on the Mariners or attending Husky football games has become detached from this cultural legacy due to the imposition of music that holds little relevance or resonance to us. While multiple generations of family members once got excited by the initial notes of "Louie Louie" blaring across stadium speakers, now our eyes roll as we're forced to endure the cacophony of "Can't Hold Us." We used to dance. Now we just want the timeout to end or the bottom of the 7th inning to begin. Nobody asked for this change.

We propose to bring back the authentic Seattle spirit at our beloved sports events by reinstating "Louie Louie" as our collective anthem. This move would demonstrate civic pride, cultural awareness, and a recognition of the proud history we share in the Pacific Northwest.

We ask all Seattle sports fans, and anyone who understands the immense cultural role and power held by anthems, to come together and support us in reinstating the true sound of Seattle. Sign our petition to reinstate "Louie Louie" and ban the tired track of "Can't Hold Us" from our stadiums.
