We the horse community of Mackay , want equal rights to access and enjoy forest reserves, trails and beaches and the undercover arena at the Showgrounds. We also would appreciate awareness campaigns for the safety of equestrians and general public. The horse community has volunteered and supported the erection of the undercover by manual labour and financially and had a crucial input in obtaining the grant to build the facility. It is now virtually out of reach for us to use due to the unrealistic charges and restrictions  implemented by the showground committee. Hence the facility does not get used and is wasted . This is a disgrace for Mackay.  We foresee it being redirected for another purpose because of this and is very disheartening, especially because of the input and faith exhibited by the horse community. In making decisions that affect the horse community we urge you to include representatives of the horse community in order to come to a productive and engaging outcome. We note that other regions welcome and provide facilities for horse riding as public service to their constituents. Researching this it leaves Mackay as a very horse unfriendly region to settle in and shows complete disregard for this large portion of the community. Hence there has been an exodus steadily over the years of families to more user friendly regions of Queensland. We implore you to meet with the community and rectify the imbalance some of which could be done immediately.
