This beautiful bunny was dumped on the steps of a bird rescue in Bolton, Greater Manchester, earlier this week. He seemed to have been left there overnight and could have been attacked by predators. The cage he was found in was so dirty it probably hadn’t been cleaned for weeks. No note or food had been left.
A vet check revealed this rabbit had a chip and is a four-year-old male registered at a Pets at Home store in Manchester. He is not neutered and unlikely to be vaccinated. Three of his claws are missing where he tried to get out of the cage. This poor boy also has beginnings of arthritis in his back. He is now safe with a fosterer.
Earlier this year a rabbit was dumped under a bridge in Dunfermline, Scotland, together with a Pets at Home carrier. He was found in terrible condition. https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/local/fife/857554/dumped-rabbit-in-worst-condition-inspector-had-seen/
Last year we also shared Libby’s story, a two-year-old female, who had been abandoned. She was carrying a Pets at Home chip.
Pets at Home have recently decided to stop chipping the rabbits they sell, probably so the abandoned and neglected ones can’t be traced back to them.
Our petition will be delivered soon but there is still time to add your voice if you haven't already.
Pets at Home rabbits can very easily end up in the wrong hands and the only way to stop this is to stop selling them.
Ask Pets at Home to stop selling rabbits by re-tweeting this: https://twitter.com/BaBBACampaign/status/1147643885348433922
