Lilydale, situated in the north east of Melbourne at the doorstep of the picturesque Yarra Valley, is rapidly changing. 

Level Crossing Removal Authority (LXRA) have released the designs for the Cave Hill Road level crossing removal, which will see the discontinuation of Cave Hill Road and break its connection with Melba Avenue.

This is a vitally important thoroughfare, which is widely used by the community - particularly local residents and emergency vehicles. Anyone who lives in and around Lilydale knows how congested the roads get - particularly Maroondah Highway & John St, which connect to Cave Hill Road. The closure of Cave Hill Road and replacing it with a pedestrian underpass would place more pressure on Lilydale's roads, particularly during school pickup. 

What is of greater concern is that LXRA have not consulted with local businesses and residents, which is a complete violation of our trust in the LXRA and our government. We, including the local council have expressed concerns with the project, but have been left out in the dark. 

Additionally, the designs show an overpass that do not allow for future-proofing for the very much needed duplication between Mooroolbark and Lilydale, which the local council and residents have pleaded to be done for many years.
