Luxury Living Should Include Pet Safety: Harbor Point/BLT, Switch to Pet-Safe Salt.

The Issue

Harbor Point is a luxury, pet friendly community where residents pay premium rent with the expectation of high standards and thoughtful care.

Yet every winter, sidewalks and common areas are treated with harsh rock salt that burns pets’ paws, causes limping and pain, and makes daily walks unsafe. In a luxury building, residents should not need booties or vet visits just to safely walk their dogs outside their own homes.

This is not only a pet issue. Service animals, protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), must be able to safely accompany their handlers throughout residential spaces. De-icing chemicals that cause pain or injury create a barrier to access for residents who rely on these animals.

A Better Option Exists:
Pet safe ice melts are already widely used in other communities.

They:

*Do not burn paws
*Are non toxic
*Are safer for children, wildlife, and landscaping
*Cause less damage to concrete and building materials

What We’re Asking:
We are calling on Building and Land Technology (BLT) to:

*Switch to pet safe de-icing materials in all common outdoor areas
*Apply them consistently during winter weather

This is a reasonable, achievable upgrade that aligns with Harbor Point’s luxury standards and pet friendly values.
