Insist Njongo Holdings in CoCT scan deceased animals/check collar & tags -contact owners

The Issue

A R3 450 000 tender was recently awarded by the City of Cape Town to Njongo Holdings (Pty) Ltd, trading as Khulisa Ulutsha. It is alleged they will not scan deceased pets for a microchip to contact the deceased animal's guardians. Concern has also been raised that the new contractors won't contact guardians if there is a collar and tag.  This will leave distraught animal guardians without knowledge of the fate of their companions, and will not help in bringing closure.  The previous company ensured they contacted guardians of deceased animals found, they also posted on their social media, which assisted when the animals were not microchipped, even though it was not a tender requirement, which it certainly should be. It is unacceptable that Capetonians must wait three years to possibly have this rectified. We demand that as the tender cannot be changed, the high standard of attention be maintained, and that Njongo Holdings purchase scanners, ensure that all domestic animal bodies be checked for microchips, and that contact be made for all animals with chips or collars, with the people who loved them, and oversight be ensured to guarantee compliance.
