Spring–Summer 2025 Update: Progress in Protecting Pont-Y-Pandy Woodlands
Dear Supporters,
As we transition into the warmer months of 2025, we want to share important developments regarding our efforts to safeguard the Pont-Y-Pandy woodlands.
Risk Assessment Findings
Our team at Lunacare Cymru has conducted a comprehensive risk assessment of the area. The findings highlight significant safety and operational risks that must be addressed before any major restoration activities can proceed. These include environmental hazards such as waste accumulation and degraded pathways, which pose challenges to both our team and the local community.
Engaging with Linc Cymru
Recognising the importance of collaboration, our immediate priority is to initiate formal discussions with Linc Cymru, the landowner of a portion of the affected area. We aim to explore partnership opportunities, focusing on the potential transfer or cooperative management of a small, degraded section of land within the woodlands. This collaboration could pave the way for effective rewilding and community engagement initiatives.
Maintaining Confidentiality
Until now, we've maintained discretion regarding the Linc Cymru-controlled side of the Pont-Y-Pandy woodlands due to the sensitive nature of preliminary talks and the information exchanged. We are committed to transparency as we move forward and will keep our supporters informed about significant developments.
Looking Ahead
We are hopeful that, in the coming weeks, a mutually beneficial agreement can be reached with Linc Cymru. Such a partnership would be a significant step toward restoring the ecological health of the Pont-Y-Pandy woodlands and creating a safe, green space for the community.
We remain dedicated to our mission of ecological restoration and community involvement. Your continued support is invaluable as we navigate these critical phases of the project.
Thank you for standing with us everyone over all this time.
