stop toll charges on the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry in Cornwall

The Issue

Tamar Crossings only consulted Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry users on two days (13th and 15th January 2022) on proposed increases to the toll charges for crossing the River Tamar.

This does not in any way constitute a proper public consultation.

We would like to move that, rather than be increased, the toll charges should be scrapped altogether and that cost of the bridge and ferry should in future be covered, like most of the rest of the UK's transport infrastructure, by central government.

There is no reasonable free alternative route between SE Cornwall and Plymouth and it is unfair that local residents are required to pay for these essential crossings

Most UK residents can take it forgranted that vital transport infrastructure is funded by central government and this should now also apply to a part of the country that is already seriously economically disadvantaged.

An additional benefit of removing the toll booths and allowing traffic to flow freely across the Tamar Bridge would be a reduction in the queues that form at peak times.
