Approve a Traffic Light for County Line Rd and Grand Hampton Dr in Tampa, FL

The Issue

The Grand Hampton Community is a residential neighborhood in Tampa, Florida with over 5000 residents in 1076 homes. The main entrance for the community is located at the intersection of Grand Hampton Drive and County Line Rd.

When the community was first built, the vehicle traffic on County Line Rd was very light. It was very safe and easy to enter and exit the community. Over the last 15 years, as more and more development happened on and around County Line Rd, the traffic levels have grown exponentially. It has become very difficult and unsafe to enter and exit the community. While the speed limit for the road was reduced from 55 MPH to 45 MPH, it has not done enough to alleviate the problems. Development is also continuing at a fast pace which continues to add to the issue.

There are regular accidents with injuries at that intersection, many near-miss accidents and at least a few fatalities. The residents of Grand Hampton have tried to contact government authorities to request a study and a traffic light, but it doesn't seem to be a priority to get this done. Years have passed and nothing has been done- yet more an more traffic continues to pour onto County Line Rd. Many residents are afraid every time they have to exit the community. We shouldn't have to drive in fear when trying to take our kids to school or go to work in the morning and at night.

The community is located in crosshairs of 3 different jurisdictions. City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, and Pasco County. We ask the leaders to work together to save our residents before there is another accident or any more fatalities. We invite them to come visit our beautiful community and try to exit and experience this on their own. We want to protect our resident, our children and those visitors passing by on County Line Rd.
