Class of 2020 Graduation

Class of 2020 Graduation
The Issue
Today a great injustice was done to the LPHS Senior Class of 2020. While other school districts are postponing prom and graduation till July in an effort to provide these hardworking seniors with what they rightfully deserve, La Porte ISD has chosen to cancel prom and prerecord graduation to be aired on a later date. I understand there are bigger things in the world right now, I understand safety is a very big issue, but why not try and give these kids a chance to get what they have earned? Instead the school has cancelled prom, and decided to give the money that the senior class of 2020 worked so hard for to the under classmen. This doesn't sit well with me. These kids worked hard to raise money for prom, banquets, and project graduation. Have these kids not suffered enough with the coronavirus? They were robbed of their last moments in the halls, limos, dances, parties, and saying goodbye to their friends. Why not have the prerecorded ceremony and use the money earned for a later graduation in July? Treat it as a rained in graduation with only two tickets per student if you have to. And if July doesn't work, we have already had the prerecorded ceremony. Give these kids what is rightfully theirs give them a fighting chance at having their moment. This is their moment, and it is their funds they raised. I understand another reason behind the decision for a prerecorded ceremony would be to give those students who may be leaving right after to college or the military, their chance at the graduating experience. I just hate that we didn't give the students options. Get the student council together and provide them with options, create senior memory baskets, ask if they want to provide a senior gift to the school, but stop taking things away from them. I am asking that the school district, the board, the superintendent, the principle, all of you to reconsider your decision.
