To whom this may concern,
Please sign this petition to get the owner of Lowes Brickyard property to take action on placing a speed hump or camera where it is greatly needed. According to the Chicago ward 36th office, Lowes has refused to put a speed hump there due to "truck traffic." If a speed hump is the issue then we ask for Lowes to put a speed camera on the road. We ask for anything that will make people more cautious, and stop people from speeding.
Tragedy continuously keeps occuring at 2630 North Narragansett, directly behind Lowes. On June 12th, 2014, not one, not two, not three, but four young people died due to going at an accelerating speed, and losing control of the vehicle. The victims were identified as Chicago residents Ricardo Rociles, 22, Jesus Salado, 19, Rafael Leal, 19, and 19-year-old Jennifer Robles of Harvard, Ill. Direcetly stated in the news, the vehicle came within 5 feet of striking about 100 propane tanks, which could have caused a catastrophe. Just recently On August 5th, 2017, the life of Erick Alvarado, 19, was taken, at the exact location. We as a community can't help to feel that Erick would still be with us today, if something was done after the first deadly accident. The residents of Chicago continue to lose and mourn our children. Most of the victims were new graduates who had their entire life ahead of them. They were respected members of the Chicago community. The brickyard is a common hang out spot for young teens, a place they go for fun. We want to make sure their safety is ensured. We as a community ask that a speed hump or camera is placed at the location where accelerating vehicles continue to lose control causing these deadly accidents. Speed humps/ cameras are used for traffic calming, and that is what we feel we need. A speed hump/ camera seems like a small price to pay. So we ask, how much are these young peoples lives worth to you?
