Shein has caused undeniable problems during its reign. Serious environmental and humanitarian violations occurred under its operation. Notably, its ties to the Uyghur genocide in the Xinjiang region of China through the use of materials harvested through slavery. Shein has numerous documented violations of RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) and the UFLPA (Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act-- which banned imports from China's Xinjiang region in the U.S.). By lowering the de minimis value-- a tax exemption that allows packages with a value of under $800 to avoid taxation and through screening-- from $800 to $200, we can ensure the search and tax of Shein packages valued at above $200. By doing this, we can hold Shein accountable for its exploitative practices and prevent them from easily monopolizing the fashion industry.
