Lower U.S. Hospital and Drug Prices with National Price Caps

Lower U.S. Hospital and Drug Prices with National Price Caps
The Issue
Healthcare affordability matters deeply to me because no one should be denied life-saving treatment simply because they can't pay. It’s profoundly unfair that families across the U.S. face financial ruin, or worse, have to go without essential care while medical prices remain sky-high and out of reach for many. It is essential to implement national price caps to make necessary treatments accessible, safeguard individuals from crippling medical debt, and ensure everyone has a fair chance to maintain their health.
The United States spends significantly more on healthcare than any other country, yet we are not ranked as the top in terms of health outcomes. Currently, Americans pay approximately $12,000 to $15,000 per person annually on healthcare, with costs for medications and procedures often two to four times higher than those in peer nations. For instance, heart transplants that cost $1 to $2 million in the U.S. can be obtained for approximately $400,000 to $900,000 in Germany and only $200,000 to $400,000 in Spain.
Countries that actively negotiate and set price caps for healthcare services have shown that it's possible to bundle costs while achieving similar or even superior health outcomes at significantly reduced prices. By following their lead, America could improve accessibility to vital treatments, thereby enhancing public health without burdening families with exorbitant expenses.
We urge Congress to act now by setting binding national price caps for hospital services. This essential legislative action would level the playing field, ensuring that all Americans have the opportunity for affordable and equitable healthcare. We cannot continue to allow inflated medical costs to dictate whether someone lives a healthy life or suffers endlessly due to an inability to pay.
Sign this petition to demand change and make healthcare affordable for all. It's time we hold our leaders accountable and push for a system where everyone has access to the care they need without the fear of financial devastation. Join us in calling for U.S. Congress to establish national price caps on hospital services to bring much-needed relief to American families.
