The Issue

The safety of our community is in jeopardy, and being a resident of this neighborhood, this issue directly affects my family and I. Two households that are part of my family have seen their properties impacted due to motor accidents that resulted from speeding. My 8-year-old nephew had a close call as he narrowly escaped being hit by a car while standing on the sidewalk.  My neighbors have had 6 of their parked cars totaled and another with a car into their fence.  These strange and scary incidents are the harsh reality of how speed can result in serious, life-impacting situations.

Over the span of just two weeks, three significant car accidents have occurred in our neighborhood due to high speed. This frequency of accidents is too alarming to be ignored. This situation is intolerable and the resolution is clear - we need our speed limits lowered to 35 miles per hour to prevent further accidents.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), speed is a contributing factor in about one third of all fatal crashes in the U.S. Preventative measures such as reducing speed limits have been shown to increase road safety according to World Health Organization (WHO).

We call on our local officials to respond proactively to this escalating situation. Improve our neighborhood safety. Protect our children, our families and our homes. Lower our speed limit to 35 miles per hour. Please sign this petition to voice your support. You do not need to donate any money. Please just sign to support this cause.
