The Issue
In the heart of Kamerin Springs, where children laugh and play, safety should never be a matter of chance. As a resident and a parent, I see firsthand the joy our neighborhood streets bring to our children. However, this joy is coupled with a certain anxiety every time a vehicle speeds down Lithia Way. With many young children residing in our area, the need for safe and walkable streets has never been more paramount.
Studies show that reducing vehicle speeds significantly decreases the likelihood and severity of accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a pedestrian hit at 20 mph is about 70% more likely to survive than if hit at 30 mph. Slowing down saves lives, and our children deserve nothing less.
To protect and preserve our neighborhood's joyful environment, I am calling for the speed limit in the Kamerin Springs neighborhood to be lowered to 15 mph. In addition, implementing traffic calming measures, such as speed humps along Lithia Way, will greatly enhance the safety of our streets. Speed humps have been effective in neighborhoods nationwide, resulting in reduced vehicle speed and increased community safety.
By signing this petition, you're advocating for a safer community where children can freely enjoy playing outside. You're helping ensure that the streets of Kamerin Springs are safer for everyone, from toddlers on tricycles to seniors on their afternoon walks. Let's come together to make our neighborhood safer for all residents. Please sign this petition to show your support and help us protect our community’s future today.
