Lower the Retirement Age to 55

The Issue

I have been working since the age of 15, diligently paying into our system with the hope of enjoying my retirement years. However, as it stands, many like me are left waiting until their late 60s to retire - a time when health issues often start to arise and life's pleasures become harder to enjoy.

The current retirement age in many countries is set at an average of 65 years old. This means that individuals who started working at a young age, like myself, will have contributed for over half a century before they can reap the benefits of their hard work. It's time we reconsider this policy.

Lowering the retirement age to 55 would not only allow individuals more time to enjoy their golden years but also open up job opportunities for younger generations entering the workforce. Moreover, according to research by Stanford Center on Longevity, early retirees tend to be healthier and live longer lives.

We urge lawmakers and policymakers alike to consider reducing the pensionable age from its current standard down to 55 years old. This change would reflect our society's respect for lifelong contributions and acknowledge that quality life should not be limited by outdated policies.

Please sign this petition if you believe in a fairer balance between work-life contribution and retirement enjoyment.
