Lower the Prices of Taylor Swift's Merchandise for Affordable Fan Access
The Issue
As a dedicated fan of Taylor Swift, I am deeply saddened by the fact that many fellow fans and I are unable to afford her merchandise. This exclusionary pricing strategy is not only disappointing but also creates a divide within the fan community. It is estimated that a significant portion of Taylor's fan base consists of young individuals and students who may not have the financial means to purchase these items. According to Statista, in 2019, 26% of her fans were aged between 18-24 years old - an age group typically associated with lower income due to education commitments or early career stages (Statista, 2019). The high prices are therefore excluding a significant portion of her audience from fully participating in the fandom.
It is important to note that merchandising plays a significant role in the music industry, contributing approximately 10-15% of the total revenue (source: Forbes). However, when these products become unaffordable for average consumers, it defeats its purpose and alienates potential buyers.
We understand that quality merchandise comes at a cost. Yet, there must be a balance where both parties – the artist and fans – can benefit mutually. A reduction in price will not only make Taylor Swift's merchandise more accessible but also potentially increase overall sales volume due to higher affordability.
