Lower the Legal Smoking Age from 19 to 18 in Saskatchewan, Canada

The Issue

I believe and defend that adults should have the right to make their personal choices, including the decision to smoke or not. Currently, recently in Saskatchewan, the legal age for smoking was set to 19 years, and I would like to call on the relevant authorities to lower this to 18 years.

Statistics show young adults from the age of 18 are capable of making informed decisions about their lives. In fact, at 18, they are granted the privilege to vote and the responsibility to enlist in the military. Hence, determining the legal smoking age at 19 seems a bit inconsistent considering 18 year-olds are treated as adults in most legal matters.

Personal responsibility and choice play significant roles in the lives of 18 year-olds. This is a critical development stage where independence is fostered. In most provinces, including British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec, and the three territories, the legal smoking age is 18. Therefore, not only does this age adjustment make sense from a personal liberties perspective but it also brings Saskatchewan in line with its neighbors.

In conclusion, this petition calls for a review of the current smoking age in Saskatchewan, and advocates for a reduction from 19 years to 18 years. Let's defend personal rights and respect individual's choices. Please sign this petition to support this necessary change in our Saskatchewan laws.
