Lower the Legal Driving Age in the UK to 16

Lower the Legal Driving Age in the UK to 16
The Issue
My son is already an excellent driver, thanks to numerous young driver sessions conducted on private land. His skills and diligence on the driving seat have developed remarkably. However, his progress is curtailed by the legal driving age in the UK - an age he has not yet attained and the requirement of qualifying for the enhanced mobility rate of Personal Independent Payments (PIP), which he doesn't qualify for.
This isn't just about him though, it's a concern for young individuals across the UK. Gaining driving experience and road safety awareness at an earlier age can inculcate better driving habits, boost confidence, and potentially reduce the risk of accidents. The US, for example, allows learners to start at 15, and their data doesn't show a significant increase in accident rates due to younger drivers.
By adjusting the legal driving age to 16, we can provide young people with an opportunity to start learning and practicing on real roads, thereby equipping them with better driving skills and maturity when they start driving independently. We urge the UK government to reconsider the legal driving age for the safety and development of our young adults. Please sign and support our call for a lowered legal driving age.
