Lower the grade boundaries for IB Math AA P1 May 2026 (SL/HL) AGAIN (SHARE!)
The Issue
WE UNDERSTAND THIS MAY NOT HAVE MUCH EFFECT AS THIS HAS HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY LAST YEAR FOR M2025 BUT WE FEEL AS IF NOTHING WAS LEARNED FROM THE MISHAPS OF LAST YEARS PAPERS AND WAS ONLY REPEATED AGAIN THIS YEAR. THIS MAY NOT MAKE MUCH CHANGE TO THE IB'S DECISIONS BUT IT PROVES THAT THIS WAS SEEN GLOBALLY AND PROVES ITS IMPORTANCE WHILE MAKING A STATEMENT.
As an IB student who has recently experienced the daunting challenges posed by the May 2026 IB AA Math exams (for both Standard Level and Higher Level), I am compelled to address a significant issue that many of us have faced. The test, undeniably, was gruelingly difficult, leaving a vast majority of students feeling defeated and unfairly judged. Personally, I believe that the level of difficulty was unreasonable and unjust, especially considering that the problems from previous years signaled a need for change.
MAJORITY OF US AGREE THAT WE HAVE COMPLETED SEVERAL PAST PAPERS AND NONE MATCHED TO THIS LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY!!!
Many fellow students ahave echoed these sentiments, revealing a grave concern over the fairness and appropriateness of the grade boundaries this year following last years issues. The examination was not merely challenging; it was perplexing to an extent that defied logical expectations, leaving students anxious about their future. The IB's rigorous curriculum already demands an exceptional amount of preparation and effort, and when the assessments do not reflect this, it results in widely felt disillusionment and discouragement.
More than majority of students ive asked found the examination unmanageable, despite months of diligent preparation. This is not just a personal plight but one shared by a community of learners who feel their potential is not being accurately represented.
It's crucial to recognize that grade boundaries are not solely assessments of knowledge but are also indicative of teaching quality, student stress levels, and fairness in standardization. Also, comparable subjects have maintained reasonable grade boundaries commensurate to their difficulty levels, ensuring a balanced educational evaluation. This is an action the IB must consider for Math AA as well.
We implore the International Baccalaureate Organization to review and lower the grade boundaries for the May 2026 assessment in all IB AA Math Levels across TZ1, TZ2, and TZ3. Our goal is to ensure a fairer assessment that aligns more closely with the expectations and realities of all students.
THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME BUT THE SECOND TIME IN A CONSECUTIVE YEAR!!
Please join us in calling upon the IB to act toward a more equitable and just assessment framework. Your signature can make a difference! Let's stand together to demand the change that positively impacts every student's future.
