As a parent, I am deeply concerned about the future of my children and their ability to pay off their student loans. The current interest rates on these loans are alarmingly high, often exceeding 6%. This makes it nearly impossible for students to fully repay their debts and start their adult lives free from financial burden. We believe that obtaining a college education should be affordable for everyone, not a privilege reserved for the few.

Moreover, the structure of Direct Parent Plus loans is problematic. Currently, these loans cannot be transferred into the student's name which places an undue burden on parents, particularly those who are single or financially vulnerable. This can lead to severe credit damage if payments cannot be made.

We urge Congress to take two critical actions: firstly, set all student loan interest rates at 0% - this would significantly ease repayment terms and make higher education more accessible; secondly, change legislation so that Direct Parent Plus loans can be transferred from parents to students - this would alleviate financial strain on families while also promoting responsibility among young adults.

The time has come for us as a nation to prioritize education affordability over profit-making practices in our lending systems. Let's give our children the chance they deserve at pursuing their career paths without being shackled by debt.
