For students to fulfill their legal obligation to attend school, students need adequate and reliable transportation. However, in North Andover, student bus passes are incredibly expensive. Currently, a bus for students grades 7-12 costs $360 dollars per student, and $80 for students who qualify for reduced lunch. By comparison, neighboring districts like Andover charge only $100 for a bus pass, with a family cap of $200, making their transportation costs far more affordable. Meanwhile, a full year parking pass for a NAHS student is only $40. To address the issue of expensive transportation, we propose raising the price of student parking passes from the current $40. This additional revenue can be used to lower the cost of bus passes, making transportation more affordable and accessible.  Such a change would particularly benefit low-income families who rely heavily on bus transportation, ensuring that all students have reliable access to school regardless of their financial situation. It is important to provide students with reliable, and affordable transportation in order for school to not be a burden to them or their families.
