Our neighborhood in Trent Woods is a special place, where children laugh and play, creating cherished memories.  However, the current speed limit of 35 miles per hour on Colleton Way and Alexander Lane is jeopardizing their safety. Many of us have experienced the fear of watching cars and trucks speed past our homes, often well above the limit. 

Our community roads are narrow and children play near them, making it all too easy for a slightly faster vehicle to become a dangerous hazard. Studies have shown that reducing speed limits in residential areas significantly decreases the risk of accidents. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there is a 10% higher risk of fatality for every 5 mph increase in speed, especially alarming in areas filled with pedestrians.

Several cities have successfully implemented lower speed limits in residential areas, with remarkable results in terms of safety and quality of life. By lowering our neighborhood speed limit to 25 mph, we can protect our children, and make our streets safer and more livable for everyone. This change will encourage drivers to be more mindful and adaptable to the presence of children at play.

We propose to work with local authorities and the city's transportation department to conduct thorough research and swiftly make this critical adjustment.
