Lower Private Rental Housing Costs to Support Affordability

Lower Private Rental Housing Costs to Support Affordability
The Issue
I'm a hard-working individual earning £28,000 a year and, like many others, I find myself unable to rent a home due to high housing costs and strict affordability regulations. What's even more distressing is my struggle with chronic back pain, which makes living in an apartment located 2/3x flights up a daily challenge. To add to that, I am a parent of a developmentally disabled child. Living amidst stairs and confined spaces makes our lives more difficult than it should be.
The lack of affordable housing in our society today is a serious issue that affects many people. In the UK, nearly half of renters are cost-burdened, meaning they spend more than 30% of their income on rent. Additionally, a person working full time at the federal minimum wage of £12.21 cannot afford to rent a two-bedroom flat via private rentals.
I am not alone in this struggle, and it is high time we make a stand. We must advocate for policies to reduce private rental housing costs and create more affordable dwellings that cater to everyone's situations.
Let our voices be heard. Behind each signature on this petition is a call for action, a plea for understanding, and a hope for a better tomorrow. Please sign this petition to encourage policy changes for more affordable housing.
