Lower Parking Fees and Increase Proximity for Students at Harrisburg and Temple Universities

The Issue

As both students and dedicated scholars at Harrisburg University , many of us endure grueling conditions to receive an education. We traverse harsh weather conditions and personally shoulder the burdens of high tuition costs and street parking fees. These financial and physical costs are an unfair burden -- especially when we have to pay a hefty $30 for a few hours of parking in our school's garage.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation*, nearly 60% of the student community owns a car, and many of these students pay significant amounts to park them. This expense can be mitigated by the Universities if they dedicate closer, affordable parking spaces specifically for student use.

Furthermore, the risk of crime, which the National Institute of Justice reports is a heightened concern in parking facilities**, is an undue psychological burden to place on students. Close, dedicated, and securely monitored parking can dissuade potential criminal activity and increase student safety.

We implore Harrisburg University to recognize the financial and safety concerns of their students, revise their policies towards parking, and make a concerted effort to reduce parking fees and allocate closer and safer parking spaces for their students. Please, sign this petition and support our cause.
