Lower Calaveras County water district costs
Lower Calaveras County water district costs
The Issue
Living on a fixed income as a senior citizen in Valley Springs, I am faced with the astonishingly high cost of water from the Calaveras County Water District. Each month, I struggle to afford the $600 bill, a price that feels completely unrealistic for anyone, let alone those of us who are retired. This financial burden is not just my own – it affects countless residents who are finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with such exorbitant payments.
The Calaveras County Water District serves a crucial role for our community, but the current pricing model is not sustainable. Many residents are forced to make difficult choices between essential needs such as medication, food, and paying their water bills. This is unacceptable, especially when our community is composed of numerous individuals and families who are on fixed incomes. We need a pricing structure that reflects the economic realities of our community.
A reasonable solution is the implementation of a tiered pricing system, where lower income households and those on fixed incomes receive more affordable rates. This would not only alleviate the financial stress on many residents but also promote water conservation by encouraging mindful usage among all customers. Additionally, increasing transparency about how rates are determined allows us to ensure that pricing is equitable and justifiable.
Other communities have successfully restructured their water district pricing based on residents’ financial capabilities, and it’s time for Calaveras County to do the same. We call upon the leadership of the Calaveras County Water District to sit down with residents and open a dialogue about these concerns.
Change is possible, and your voice matters. By signing this petition, you stand with us in urging the Calaveras County Water District to revise its pricing strategy to better serve the needs of Valley Springs and the broader county community. Your support can help bring about a fairer and more considerate approach to how our water is priced. Sign now and contribute to making a meaningful impact!
