In the upcoming school year, Lowell high school is implementing a no off-campus policy. This will change the routine of many Lowell students who leave campus to buy/eat lunch. While this has reportedly been developed to prevent the spread of Covid, in practice this will likely be ineffective as students will interact with non-students before and after school especially on public transit. It will, however, cause increased stress levels in the notoriously stressed students of Lowell. For many students a midday break from campus is a huge relief and is vital to maintaining good health. Lowell, while a great school, can be an extremely stressful environment due to academic competition and little administrative support. When students do stay on campus there’s a tendency for many to study instead of eating lunch. This can be detrimental to both physical and mental health. While we are sure the administration has good intentions with this policy, it is clear it will do more harm than good.
