Require Plant Sellers to Label house Plants that are Toxic to Animals
The Issue
This Easter our cat was poisoned by Easter Lilly pollen.
Our neighbor, who has no pets, had no knowledge of its severe toxicity, even just by contact.
This plant, among others that are poison to pets, are bought frequently unbeknownst to the buyer. We need to require clear labeling on plants that can kill our pets!
This is not common knowledge and a simple yellow caution warning tag on a plant should be required to protect animals from painful renal failure and sometimes death.
Often times, it’s too late once symptoms of Lilly poisoning starts.
A simple google search will find article after article about the increase of houseplant poisoning of pets specifically around the holidays (Easter lilies and poinsettias specifically).
Lillies do not need to be ingested to be fatal, and that is a tragedy.
Please consider signing this petition to protect innocent pets and pet owners from the heartache of a plant poisoning that could be avoided by a simple label. Treatment of poisoning is hard and expensive and some households go into debt to try to reverse this poisoning. Prevention and awareness should be on the shoulders of those selling these types of plants.
Please sign to protect our furry family members!
This petition is to initiate change. We are asking all stores including the largest ones that vend houseplants to take this serious and be responsible sellers to protect their customers and their furry family members from heartbreak!
