Wetlands, wildlife and safety!

Wetlands, wildlife and safety!

The Issue

Loves travel stops would like to build another truck stop in Moses Lake. They currently have a truck stops 45 miles east of Moses Lake and 60 miles west of Moses Lake.          ( Moses Lake has about 25,000 residents and is already home to 2 other truck stops) They have decided to build this truck stop on land they themselves stated includes protected wetlands. In addition to the wetlands on their site, there are 2 other protected wetland areas across the street from it. One on the west side of the property and  one on south side of the property. The property they have chose has hawks, eagles, herons, songbirds, and spotted leopard frogs. These are protected species. Animals that frequent this land they failed to mention on there report are deer, porcupines, beavers, racoons, ducks, and other rarebirds.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife listed these threatened or endangered species known to be on or near the proposed truck stop: Columbia Basin pygmy rabbit, gray wolf, yellow-billed cuckoo, leopard frog.

Protected species that are near the site are: Hawks, Blue Herons, Bald Eagles.

This sight will not only disrupt and kill some of these animals, but it will also create a massive safety issue for traffic and pedestrians. They plan to change the current 2 way roads around it to 1 way roads that will send truck traffic through the adjacent neighborhood.

5 miles west of their proposed sight is open desert with no residential neighborhood or wetlands with easy access to I-90 already built. 5 miles east of their proposed sight is an existing truck stop with Hotels, Restaurants, and even a Starbucks.

Please sign this petition asking Loves Travel Stops to choose another sight, that will keep our wetlands, wildlife, and community safe.
