End the Nonsense Practice of High Stakes Testing
Standardized testing takes a sample (a not at all accurate, miniscule sample) of a student's performance. Tests are not created by the classroom Teachers your child is educated and assessed by on a daily basis. One singular, isolated event in the course of a school year should not determine whether or not a child advances a grade level. As it stands now, an honor roll student in the 8th grade who does not test well on the standardized evaluation would be held back regardless of daily classroom performance. Are seven Teachers year-long assessments of a students performance worth less than this one, inaccurate measure? NO! Louisiana needs to stop this ridiculous, arbitrary practice.
Standardized Testing is nothing short of a large-scale public fraud used by politicians and major corporations for their own ends. Tests are often graded by unqualified/incompetent temporary workers with little interest in accuracy. Different scorers count different answers for different points. Do you want your child's future hinging on the careless, instantaneous judgement of people who have no involvement with him/her? Absolutely not.
Please let the state of Louisiana know it is time to END HIGH STAKES TESTING!
