The new dress code rules at Louis Pizitz Middle School are absolutely ridiculous. Telling girls that they are no longer allowed to wear leggings, yoga pants, sweatpants, skinny jeans without finger tip length shirts, and bralettes or wearing any shirt below their collarbones, just so boys will not get "distracted", is completely unfair. In fact, some women teachers have been dress coding girls because it "distracts" male teachers. Shaming girls for what they choose to wear and telling them their bodies are distracting kills their self-esteem. Prohibiting girls from wearing what they want is not the way to fix this issue. Boys need to learn self control and realize girls were not put on this Earth to just for them to be sexualised. Some rules used to be understandable (yoga and tights have to have shirts that fully cover hips, etc.) but prohibiting things that make girls comfortable all together is outrageous.Skinny jeans have been worn for years with shirts that are average lengths. That is why we ask for a compromise from the Vestavia Hills Board of Education. Piztiz has never had a serious problem with boys being distracted. Why now change the rules when they has never been a serious problem for the long amount of time they have been used?
