Ask that "Lost Highway" bar be a clean, non-smoking neighborhood bar (1613 N. May Ave).
The Issue
Oklahoma City -- Residents of Milam Place, Linwood Place, Reed Park, Miller, and Crestwood neighborhoods have been longing for a neighborhood bar within walking distance of their homes for quite some time. And the former Bali Hai Lounge space at 1613 North May Avenue is currently being renovated, set to become Lost Highway: a full-service bar with high-point beer and liquor. But, as of right now, the bar is slated to be a smoking bar. Residents of the surrounding neighborhoods crave a clean, safe, NON-SMOKING bar they can walk to with their neighbors. Please tell the ownership of Lost Highway that we will absolutely support their bar and their business if they provide a smoke-free watering hole.
Nationally and state-wide, bars and clubs are moving away from allowing smoking. Consumers are refusing to voluntarily walk into smoke-filled businesses. The interest group Free the Night Oklahoma provides plenty of information on the economic, health, and intangible benefits of going smoke-free here: http://freethenightok.org/why-smokefree/
Seven out of 10 consumers do not smoke. Non-smokers are the majority, and they will choose to ignore bars that allow smoking. The surrounding neighborhoods are increasingly composed of young professionals who smoke at a lesser rate than previous generations. They have children and smoke-free homes to walk home to and don't want to immediately put their clothes in the laundry. Please add your name to the list asking Lost Highway ownership to consider going smoke-free when it opens its doors for the first time.
