Petition to LOST DOGS HOME - Post a public database of all Found Pets held in your centres

The issue

SAVE OUR PETS!

In this day of internet access and easy digital photography it is ludicrous to not have photos of Lost Pets held in the Lost Dogs Home centres on their website for owners to check frequently - as another way for families to search for their pets.

Sometimes full-time workers, those at a distance, or no transport find it very difficult to visit the shelter every week to look through 100 pet enclosures to seek their pet.

As a legality, Found Pets are held for 8 days in "Lost" area before being Vet checked and put up for adoption or Euthanised. This is unacceptable and more needs to be done to reunite with owners!  Many Fostering facilities also step in to assist at this point.

Lost Dogs home should be doing all they can to assist pets to be reunited with their families.

Maintaining a comprehensive website, blog, FB group, etc should be a priority to reuniting pets. If a pet is identified the owner will still need to go to the shelter and formally identify and provide ID.

A comprehensive database would help many be reunited quicker, with many reunited the day they are placed in the shelter, not waiting days for families to acknowledge their pet is missing and to start looking.

Currently multiple families are affected by a lost pet and many make weekly trips to look through every enclosure to seek their missing pet. This entails opening many enclosures and takes up around 20 minutes of staff time for each person who visits. This is not a great use of time management. Photographing pets and doing a bio is already done - and would be simple to upload to a webpage, blog or group.

Please support our petition to change very outdated policies.
