Open the Runyon Canyon Mulholland Parking Lot
The Issue
Runyon Canyon is a beloved park in Los Angeles. In March of 2020, the Runyon Canyon Mulholland entrance parking lot was shut down in the name of COVID protection.
2 years later and the parking lot is still shuttered. Clearly, it is not an effort to protect LA residents from COVID. In addition, the city cut back on the number of coveted street parking spots along Mulholland to make it even more difficult for tax payers to access the park that they help pay for.
This has caused dangerous conditions on Mulholland with people walking all over the sides of the road, cars flying by, cars backed up and waiting for one of the street spots all for seemingly no reason while an empty parking lot just sits there. We have even seen a cyclist get hit by a car and have to get medical attention. Vehicles are constantly getting towed and ticketed.
The park has re-opened and so should the parking lot. It’s tax payer land that is just sitting and rotting. The neighbors don’t want the lot to open because they say too many people use the lot and it’s too close to their house. Well, then they shouldn’t have bought property right next to a public park that has been popular for decades. They don’t have the right to close public land with no plan of reopening.
Please sign this petition to tell Council Member Raman that we demand the public lot we pay for via taxes to reopen immediately in order to restore our access to public land and to end the dangerous conditions that are being caused due to the closure.
