People of Chicago stand up! 

Just last night, the statue of Christopher Columbus, well known Italian and genocidal maniac, was removed from Grant Park. Pretty cool right? Our city should never uphold the symbols of indigenous genocide and cruelty. And what better Italian symbol to take is place than urban hero Tony Toponi –– best known for his appearances in the documentary An American Tail. 

Tony Toponi, an Italian mouse immigrant from the turn of the century, is a glowing symbol of solidarity across immigrants and races. He turned down anti-Semitism, cat-racism, and xenophobia to fight for justice among all of mice kind! What greater symbol is there for not only the beauty and justice the Italian community fights for as well as the multiracial might that our Chicago city represents?
