Long Lake #58 First Nation Members.
The Issue
Attn: FOR LONG LAKE 58# FIRST NATIONS MEMBERS ONLY! THANK YOU.
OUR STATEMENT.
The leadership of Long Lake 58 First Nation has repeatedly disregarded the genuine voices of its members regarding the crucial matter of self-governance. As passionate members of this community, we have witnessed our Chief and Council prioritizing personal financial gains over representing the true desires of our community. This is not just disheartening - it's a betrayal of trust.
The Robinson Superior Treaty is a significant agreement that should reflect the collective will of our people, both on and off the reservation Longlake 58 FN. It should not be manipulated for the benefit of a few individuals in power, This treaty affects our future and the legacy we leave for our children and grandchildren, Therefore, It is imperative that every member of LongLake 58 First Nation. whether residing on the reservoir elsewhere. stands up and demands a say in this decision.
Currently, the narrative being pushed by our leaders does not align with the aspirations of many community members. It is essential that we unite to challenge this narrative by calling for a fair and open vote on the Robinson Superior Treaty, Our Community deserves transparency and honesty and only through a democratic voting process we can ensure our voices are heard and respected.
Implementing a community-wide vote would not only reinforce democratic values but also foster trust and solidarity among all members. We have the power to advocate for a process that genuinely represents our collective wishes.
We urge each and everyone of you to join this cause, by signing this petition, you are not simply putting your name on a document- you are standing up for transparency, fairness and the true representation of our community's interest. Together let’s push for a fair vote and ensure our voices are truly valued.
Sign this petition to demand a vote on the Robinson Treaty and to have our Chief of Longlake 58 First Nation removed due mismanagement.
Addition to the document here is another statement:
As members of Longlac #58 first nations, we have witnessed an alarming lateral violence, The lateral violence comes from a division caused by the Chief and several councils. We were raised in Longlac #58 FN and we were taught the to strive for unity.
The members in our community want to build and promote unity, respect and support cultural tradition. We are not ready for self-government, we know that our Chief and several councils are over riding community members' beliefs in the desire to continue to be members with Robinson Superior, we will be in unity with other Robinson Superior in Northern Ontario.
STATEMENT #2.
For generations our people in Long Lake #58 have strived for unity, not division. This is a deeply personal struggle that has been compounded by the actions of our very own Chief and Council, who instead of advancing our community's interests, have been stalling the Robinson Superior Treaty Annuity process for personal gain and their self-governing ambitions, which we, the members, do not support.
The Robinson Superior Treaty was created to secure the financial stability and wellbeing of our community, ensuring that each member receives their rightful annuities. However, recent developments reveal a concerning misuse of power by the Chief and council, diverting resources away from those entitled to them and towards personal agendas. Verification of these claims points towards financial records and testimonies from affected community members, indicating a clear breach of trust and fiduciary
This isn't just about money. It's about ensuring our sovereignty, maintaining our culture, and protecting the very essence of who we are as a community. Historically, treaties like the Robinson Superior were designed to honour the relationship between Indigenous peoples and the Canadian government, offering justice and equitable distribution of resources. Any deviation from these principles threatens our heritage and future.
The time is to act now. We demand a thorough investigation into the financial activities of the Chief and Council to ensure accountability and transparency. This investigation must be conducted by an independent body to guarantee that justice is both served and seen to be served, We proposed establishing a community oversight committee, composed of respected and trustworthy community members, to monitor treaty fund management moving forward.
We may request Identification/Status card number.
