Reduce Zoom time for local schools

Reduce Zoom time for local schools
Why this petition matters
We are incredibly grateful for all of the hard work our educators and administrators are doing to ensure that our children learn online and stay safe. We know we are all doing our best to manage a very difficult time! We also understand the importance of providing daily interactive learning, and taking attendance diligently.
However, we feel that the amount of time students are required to be in Zoom meetings is out of proportion to their developmental ability. Respectfully, we would like to request a reduction of required Zoom time throughout the school day.
Potential alternatives include: shorter meetings that are spaced throughout the day, meeting fewer days per week, and/or supplementing Zoom meetings with independent assignments to be completed at home. Given the lack of evidence to suggest more online time increases learning, we urge the district to consider alternatives that would be less overwhelming to students and their families.
Many states suggest a maximum of 45-90 minutes of online time for younger students, 180 minutes for older students. We encourage our district to consider such models as we move forward with virtual learning.
