Burtons Rd has increased traffic for a short time Mon-Fri, morning and evening (school run hours) during school term time.  There is a proposal to close Burtons Road to traffic 24/7 following a petition to the council by a few local residents - citing dangers to pedestrians and road rage as their reasons.

During the consultation period, the council did not ask for suggestions as to how these perceived problems might be managed. It simply presented detailed plans that will result in all traffic that would normally use Burtons Rd be pushed onto Uxbridge Rd and Park Rd - two roads that are already very congested. There are a number of alternatives that would achieve the results the residents are asking for, none of which would require closure of the road but it seems that the decision has been made for a specific plan to be implemented.

Pushing cars onto Park Road, in particular, will cause worse jams than already occur at the junction with the High Street This will lead to increased congestion and pollution as well as longer car journeys. 

We live in a busy area. Is it fair to make the environment worse for many people who already bear the brunt of local traffic (Park Rd and Uxbridge Rd) so that a few can enjoy the quiet of a closed road.
