Southgate Cemetery is a tranquil place of peace and beauty and a haven for wildlife. The recent development of the cemetery is totally out-of-keeping with this nature. If allowed to be replicated it would destroy the sylvan nature of the cemetery.
We call on Enfield Council to declare the cemetery a local conservation area and to commit that any future development will respect the nature of the existing cemetery and enhance rather than detract from the ecological significance and biodiversity of the cemetery.
We also call upon the council to immediately prepare a plan to ‘green’ the recent development by introducing suitable planting to, as far as possible, match the existing cemetery.
