LAUSD to Allow Ms. Atwell to Keep Her Job at JMHS

LAUSD to Allow Ms. Atwell to Keep Her Job at JMHS
The Issue
Ms. Atwell, an amazing English teacher at Senior John Marshall High School, is being removed from her job because she is unable to receive the second dose of the Moderna vaccine shot. When Ms. Atwell received the first dose of the Moderna, she had severe side effects, which affected her body and well being. Her doctor has warned her not to take the second dose because of what happened during the first dose. Because of this, LAUSD is not allowing her to stay and teach at John Marshall High School.
As a current 10th grader who has Ms. Atwell as my English teacher, I can confidently say that Ms. Atwell is the best English teacher I have had in my academic career. She is very dedicated to her job, to her students, and to what knowledge she can provide to her students. She does not come to work just to teach and earn money, but she attends her job because she loves what she does. I have learned so many new concepts about English from Ms. Atwell because of her unique and outstanding teaching strategies. Not only does Ms. Atwell teach English, she also teaches AP English Literature, which proves how qualified she is.
If John Marshall High School loses Ms. Atwell, a part of our school will be lost, too. Students will most likely be left with temporary substitutes, which will affect our English education. Teachers and school staff will also lose a beloved friend and colleague if Ms. Atwell leaves. In addition to this, there is a small chance that a new English teacher will be hired who is also qualified to teach AP English classes, especially to Gifted Magnet students. I believe that LAUSD's and John Marshall High School's message is that they want to provide the best education and space for their students. So, if Ms. Atwell leaves, this message will certainly be erased.
It is unfair to let Ms. Atwell go just because she is unable to receive her second dose of the vaccine because she has a valid reason, which is that it will jeopardize her health again. She is not a danger to her students, other teachers, and staff. LET MS. ATWELL STAY!
