Starting near the the Effingham County Memorial Airport in Effingham, IL is the mouth an unnamed creek. This creek flows southeasterly near Raccoon Holler Wilderness Area until it flows into the Salt Creek near the Old Police Station Road south of Effingham. This creek deserves a name. Some locals refer to this creek as “Muskrat Creek”.
An application has been submitted to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) to name this water source “Muskrat Creek”. The USGS is currently reviewing this application, and the process takes several months. USGS asks for evidence of support from local citizens, local officials, and organizations who are in favor of naming the stream “Muskrat Creek”. The purpose of this petition is show support for this proposed name. If you support the naming of this stream “Muskrat Creek”, please sign the petition.
