Plastic pollution is killing our oceans and its creatures: get your council to stop it

The issue

Our oceans are dying and its creatures are undergoing a mass extinction.

The plastic pollution in our oceans is choking sea life, and is ending up on our dinner plates. And single use drinking water bottles are one of the biggest issues.

Plastic particle pollution in our oceans has become so invasive and extensive that it now outnumbers krill.

A huge 90% of ocean birds have ingested plastic in their lifetimes - with many of them dying due to strangulation and contamination.

Dolphins, seals, turtles and many other animals are regularly found dead, their stomachs full with plastic rubbish, or from having been strangled or suffocated by plastic bottles or bags.

And yet in a country that is entirely surrounded by water - few Australians are sitting up and taking notice of this deeply concerning issue.

The Australian Marine Conversation Society has estimated that Australians buy 600 million litres of bottled water a year, and use 10 million plastic bags a day. 80 per cent of bottles end up as rubbish or in landfill.

We can make a hugely positive impact on the environment by petitioning and lobbying for local councils around Australia to install ample drinking fountains.

Please sign the petition to help the future of our life-giving ocean by putting your name against real, lasting policies and infrastructure that will change the world for the better.

We will be sorting the petition via postcode and will send signatures from each area off to their respective councils.
