LOAN REFUSAL PLEDGE

The Issue

In the last decade, the Student National Debt has risen from $833 billion to $1.7 trillion in 2020. Over 44 million Americans willingly took a chance on higher education that led to unforeseen financial hardships. While unemployment rates for degree-holding graduates were lower than their GED counterparts - the justification to pay student debt should be assumed.

As COVID financial ramifications are unprecedented, economic strain for student borrowers in a shrinking job market will be incomparable. Student loans surpass credit and automobile debt and is second behind mortgage - after the housing market already crashed. The rising of annual tuition cost in-accordance with inflation directly contradicts adapting job market because of COVID.

The time for Government to commit to STUDENT DEBT RELIEF is now! Conversations in the House and Senate need to recognize the financial burden of Student Loans especially during a Global Pandemic. As a student borrower, I fully understand the stress and justifications such as cosigners or credit reporting that over-power missing monthly payments. The Government has been entertaining Student Relief conversations for over a decade and we have yet to see any action! We need grassroots efforts to inspire change and that is as a collective! We need to demonstrate the transgression of these loans and targeting 18 year olds as lifetime investments.

The way to begin this process is through a voluntary STUDENT LOAN REFUSAL PLEDGE. Let us prove to the Senate and House how integral our debt contribution is to the economy. What measures do we have to push to see Student Debt Relief from the Government!

STUDENT DEBT CRISIS,

THE PRICE IS LIFE
