Remove the SimSecret account/blog
The Issue
People have been playing the video game The Sims for 15 years now. Over those years a large number of websites and communities have come into existence. One of those "communities" is a LiveJournal blog titled SimSecret. The blog was inspired by the blog PostSecret that has done remarkable good in the world. The idea is that people send in their secrets anonymously. Unlike PostSecret there is nothing good about SimSecret. This is a dark alley in The Sims Gaming Community. The blog promotes hate, online bullying and harassment, the spread of sometimes very harmful rumors, and comes very close to slandering many people. There is even a place where people can comment on the weeks secrets and the commentary is just as bad, if not worse, than the secrets sent in. In the world of the internet where everything you say and do is put out into cyberspace forever, SimSecret, and any site like it, does irreparable harm.
Online bullying and harassment is unacceptable and many attempts have been made to report SimSecret to LiveJoural. LiveJournal has responded that nothing contained in the SimSecret blog violates their Terms of Use. By doing nothing and not removing the site as well as stating that the content contained in SimSecret does not violate their Terms of Use, LiveJournal is taking a passive role in allowing hurtful and harmful content to be published on their site. LiveJournal is sending the message the cyber-bullying and online harassment is okay and condoning the behaviour.
We want LiveJournal to remove the SimSecret blog and shut down a harmful and hateful community that is hosted on their blogging site.
