The Issue

We, the pharmacy students of Long Island University Brooklyn, request that the administration and faculty change examination procedures involving Exam Monitor being enabled and backtrack being disabled. The student body has put forth multiple complaints regarding this unfair testing procedure, the representatives have brought it up to administration numerous times, and the student body does not accept the response to this very serious concern.

Being that we are the only pharmacy school in New York State that has implemented this procedure; one can conclude this does not have a bearing on our accreditation. It is unfathomable how an institution of higher learning does not have exam uniformity, and leaves exam implementation strategies up to the professor’s temperament.

Our transcripts do not contain a disclaimer when matched with a University of Buffalo student who also had extra curriculars, but only achieved their scores with a more lenient examining procedure than LIU. We are not only competing with NYS pharmacy schools for jobs, residencies, and fellowships, but we are competing nationally.

At some point, our student body had to ask: is the administration in a state of cognitive dissonance over the treatment of their students or is it a disregard? The quality of knowledge that transforms your pupils into your future health care professionals can only be retained in a healthy environment, one without punitive examination procedures.

Your lack of true implementation of fair examination procedures has hindered your students’ educational prospects; therefore, it is imperative that this issue be resolved to prevent further detriment to your students’ present and future.

In the end, there is not only an injustice done to your students, but a disservice done to your institution.  True leadership arises during adversity, your student body has risen. Instead of striking your student body down, we ask you to rise with your students.
