Banning of all giveaway animals on Facebook pages and Gumtree.

Banning of all giveaway animals on Facebook pages and Gumtree.
The issue
In Australia there is a real problem with animals being treated as disposable and also so easy to come by. Absolutely anyone, including children, can obtain a free to good home animal so easily as they are readily available wherever you look. Facebook buy, swap and sell pages and Gumtree are notorious for endless posts of giveaway animals, people either don't understand the dangers or simply do not care. Most animals are given away on a first in first served basis, with no checks done to ensure the animals ongoing safety and care. Most animals have had little to no vetwork and many end up used as breeding machines for greedy backyard breeders looking to make a quick dollar. Did you know that snake breeders often scout these sites for giveaway kittens, rodents, even puppies to use as cheap snake food? Did you know that dog fighting rings have members scouting giveaway kittens and puppies, dogs and cats to be used either in the dog fights or as the bait? Many people don't realise the dangers they are exposing their pet to when offering it Free to good home. The animals deserve better than to be discarded under the heading 'Need Gone ASAP ' like they were an old pair of shoes or a car, we are talking about little lives here, from defenceless animals who often become the victims of cruelty and neglect. I believe there should be a ban on advertising Free to good home animals, and more tightened rules on who can take ownership of an animal. It is too easy to own a pet and far too easy to turn a blind eye to their mistreatment or what actually becomes of your free to good home animal. Please help us tighten the laws and make it harder for these people to obtain innocent animals. We ask that all animals being rehomed must have an adoption fee, of reasonable value to deter those looking for pets for the wrong reasons. The animals deserve a safety net and it is up to us, to do our best to ensure they have one.
