STOP Locust Grove, Oklahoma Police Department from Shooting Stray Dogs & Dumping Bodies
The Issue
Locust Grove, Oklahoma has a problem with stray and at-large dogs. But we have a BIGGER problem with how the Locust Grove Police Department has decided to handle matters!
On August 11, 2022 a resident surrendered two dogs to the LGPD as strays. She assumed they would be transferred to a pound, shelter, or rescue. 9 days later, on August 20, 2022… one of the dogs showed back up to her residence… with a bullet in his head.
The resident contacted LGPD and confronted one of the officers. This officer admitted, and was audio recorded, that it was the department policy to transport any at large or stray animal to the county, shoot them, and leaving the bodies behind is the current department protocol for handling at-large or stray dogs - stated by one of the police officers who admits on the recording to having shot the dogs.

LGPD Officer States It Is Department Policy To Shoot Innocent Homeless Animals
It is against Oklahoma state law to “euthanize” an animal in this capacity. —> Oklahoma Laws Regarding Euthanasia of Unclaimed Animals
The officer claimed the dogs were dead when they “threw” them (per the audio), but clearly Lucky was NOT deceased.
Lucky is just that - LUCKY. The bullet fragments ricocheted around his skull, rendering him BLIND in one eye and partially DEAF. However, HE SURVIVED. He lives with a foster now while he is recovering and get medical treatment by a local rescue. He’s got a lot of pain. The vets cannot surgically remove all the metal and bullet pieces because it’s mixed in with the nerves for his face. Lucky has to wait for EACH PIECE of metal to abscess itself and work it’s way to the surface where the vet can then remove it! The process could take years, and he may have to live with some of the bullet pieces if they don’t ever work the way up to the surface where the vet can safely remove it.
How many other MISSING animals from the Locust Grove area have been shot and dumped?
WE ARE DEMANDING justice for not just Lucky, but ALL the animals that have been murdered in such a cruel and inhumane way. WE ARE DEMANDING they give a transparent report of HOW MANY animals they have killed, and WHERE THEY HAVE BEEN DUMPED.
The officers involved in shooting Lucky need to pay for the damages done to this dog and for his care. They should ultimately lose their right to work in our town.
The mayor and/or police chiefs that condone and encourage this behavior should resign immediately.
WE NEED HELP TO STOP THIS ILLEGAL ANIMAL CRUELTY IN OUR TOWN.
