The Issue

When a trusted voice for children like Ms. Rachel speaks out, people listen. Known for helping millions of young children learn and feel safe, she is now drawing attention to something far more difficult: children being held in immigration detention.

After speaking directly with children at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center in Texas, Ms. Rachel described heartbreaking moments no child should have to endure. Her message is simple and powerful. Children deserve care, stability, and the chance to grow, not time spent in detention.

The Dilley facility has held hundreds of children, and while reports about conditions have been disputed, the reality remains that children are still being detained there today. Even one child in a setting that feels like confinement raises serious concerns about well-being, development, and basic dignity.

This is not just about one facility. It is about what kind of system we choose to support. Transparency matters. Accountability matters. And most of all, the treatment of children matters.

We can do better. Community-based alternatives exist that allow families to remain together while ensuring they can safely and responsibly navigate immigration processes. These approaches protect both human dignity and public trust, without placing children in environments that can cause harm or distress.

We call on the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to take immediate steps to close the Dilley facility and transition families into humane, community-based alternatives. We also call for clear, transparent oversight of all facilities where children are held.

Ms. Rachel has used her platform to shine a light on this issue. Now it is up to all of us to act.

Children deserve more than detention. They deserve care, compassion, and a future filled with possibility. Sign this petition to stand for them.
