Bring back the classic crinkle-cut french fries at Lions Tap in Eden Prairie

The Issue

Lions Tap is the iconic burger and fries restaurant in Eden Prairie.  The menu has remained pretty much the same since 1974: Burgers, fries and beer. Unfortunately, a decision to change from the original crinkle-cut fries to a thinner hand cut french fry in early 2020 has baffled and disappointed customers since that day. While some believe that this change was made because of the global pandemic, some in the restaurant have communicated that the change was one of preference, not of necessity.

We, the thousands of loving and adoring fans of Lions Tap, ask the ownership to bring back the crinkle-cut fries that we have known and loved since 1974.

We are not alone. The local newspaper South West Journal awarded Lions Tap the Best French Fry award in both 2018 and 2019.  In fact, the Lions Tap website highlights the popularity of the fries from nearly the beginning: "The Lyons sold the business in 1974 to Lloyd Berg. Lloyd started serving the popular french fries."

In our quest to preserve this cultural icon of the South West Metro we leave you with the words from the current owner Matt Notermann in an interview with the Heavy Table in 2017.  When asked about modernization and chasing trends Notermann responded with the following: “We don’t like fancy, frilly stuff ... And people appreciate that about us. They know nothing’s changed, and they’ll get their favorite every time they come here. Why mess with it? It works.”

We agree. Please bring back the crinkle-cut fries that we have loved for nearly 50 years.

Thank you for hearing our voices. We can't wait to return to share an overflowing basked of crinkle-cut fries -- and yes, of course we want the extra fries that fell onto the server's tray to be scooped up with the receipt and placed on the table.
