Pittsfield is an unattractive name, and for the seat of the county, that’s not alright.

Pittsfield was named after William Pitts, a British Politician who supported Americans but not our  independence per say. And while he wasn't a bad guy, he wasn't the first to our region. The Natives were, and they called the area Pontoosuc (the same as the lake). Now we do have towns here in Mass with Native names and tons of rivers and lakes, but adding another would only add respect and representation of those who lived here long before us. 

Pontoosuc, Massachusetts would add more curb appeal to our city’s name as it flows and sounds better. After all, Pittsfield seems like your going into the pitts, not very exciting for out-of-towners! 

All in all, a name change would benefit the area by giving respect and amping the attractiveness on a map, it very well could be a change towards a brighter future. So please, for the betterment of our city, sign and share this petition!
